Ukraine leads in soybean production in Europe
Global attention to legumes is growing rapidly. Ukraine traditionally grows peas, lupins, and beans, and in recent decades, soybeans have played an extremely important role. This was stated by Pavlo Koval, Director General of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.
“We are the largest producer of soybeans in Europe. It sounds simple, but capacious,” Pavlo Koval emphasized.
He noted that soybean production in Ukraine reached 6 million tons (in 2024 — ed.). Despite certain fluctuations in area, world prices for soybeans show a growing trend, which maintains its attractiveness for farmers.
“The European Union’s strategy for protein autonomy adds particular importance to this. The EU seeks to reduce dependence on imports of protein raw materials, and Ukraine can become a key partner in this process — not only as a producer, but also as a processor,” Pavlo Koval specified.
He added that Ukrainian soybean meals meet European quality requirements, and the potential for advanced processing allows for the creation of added value within the country.
