Ukraine. Kernel to cut sunflower acreage by a third in 2025

Kernel plans to cut sunflower acreage by a third in 2025, the company said in its second-quarter 2025 report.
Maize acreage is forecast at 168,000 hectares, almost double the previous year and representing 49% of the total expected acreage.
“In contrast, sunflower acreage is expected to be reduced by 34% year-on-year to 44,000 hectares (or 13% in the crop mix) as the Group continues to optimize land use and restore long-term agronomic sustainability. Although sunflower is economically important, it can deplete soil nutrients and is vulnerable to pests and diseases when grown in succession,” the report said.
Soybean acreage will decrease to 27,000 hectares, compared to a record 72,000 hectares sown a year ago.
As of the date of this report (February 28), winter crop plantings — including 95,000 hectares of winter wheat and 3,450 hectares of rapeseed — are in generally good condition, with no significant risks other than normal seasonal factors at this stage, the company said.
