Ukraine hopes to boost pea, poultry and livestock feed exports
Ukraine believes it can boost exports of peas on expectations that China may open its market as early as 2025, according to Ukrainian farm producers union UAC.
Ukrainian state food safety authority said last week the country is hoping to get Beijing’s approval to supply peas, poultry meat, animal feed and some other products to the Chinese market.
Ukraine is a major producer of grain, vegetable oils and other agricultural goods which dominate the country’s exports.
“Active negotiations are currently underway to open the Chinese market for Ukrainian peas. According to the latest data, there is a possibility that China may allow imports of Ukrainian products as early as January 1, 2025,” UAC said in a statement.
“If this market opens, it will be a significant step for Ukrainian producers, as it will significantly increase exports.”
Ukraine has completed the 2024 peas harvest, threshing 470,200 tons of the commodity, the agriculture ministry’s data show.
Analysts forecast that Ukraine may export around 400,000 tons of peas in the 2024/25 July-June season versus 314,000 tons in 2023/24 thanks to a higher harvest.
