In MY 2019/20, the interest in growing high-oleic sunflower was aroused by a record-high premium for this type of sunseed ahead of the season (over UAH 10,000/MT) along with increasing foreign demand for high-oleic sunflower oil – the product was supplied to 54 countries (42 countries a year earlier).
All major importers stepped up purchases in 2019/20 season.
As for 2020/21 season, the weather factor played the key role this year, resulting in low yields (-17% from MY 2019/20). Even with expanded acreage (+20%), the above will bring the crop down, UkrAgroConsult reports.
Although the current forecast for the high-oleic sunflower crop is moderate, the start of the season 2020/21 (September-October) saw record exports of high-oleic sunflower oil (+39% on the year).
Exports will not avoid stagnation in the latter half of the season, exportable supplies of high-oleic sunflower oil are estimated at last year’s level.
