Ukraine has learned lessons regarding the organization of agricultural trade with the EU – Kachka

Ukraine is developing its agricultural industry and will work to bring it fully in line with EU standards.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka during a joint briefing with European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christoph Hansen and Danish Minister of Agriculture Jakob Jensen in Luxembourg on the sidelines of the EU Council meeting on agricultural issues.

“Agriculture is one of the most complex topics, second in importance after defense,” Kachka said.

He thanked the EU and its member states for the assistance they provide to Ukrainian agricultural producers, and also highly praised the “recalibrated” trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which will enter into force in a few days.

“We learned some pleasant lessons, as well as some sad ones, which overall gave us useful knowledge on how to organize trade between Ukraine and the European Union,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Kachka emphasized the development of Ukraine’s agricultural sector in accordance with EU standards.

“Most of the standards mentioned in the new agreement are part of Ukraine’s policy agenda for the next few years and even decades,” he said, expressing confidence that there will be no problems with compliance with most of these standards.

According to the government official, Ukraine is “one of the best and most reliable trading partners of the EU,” ensuring EU food security, and its agricultural exports often serve as a useful tool for ensuring the economic profitability of EU agricultural producers, especially in the livestock sector.

“That is why we will continue to work on integrating our agricultural and food system with the EU system, and I hope that together we will be global players in the field of food security,” the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.

As Ukrinform reported, the EU agriculture ministers at today’s meeting of the EU Council in Luxembourg are, among other things, discussing the possibility of increasing Ukrainian exports.

Ukraine and the European Union approved a decision to abolish part of the tariffs and increase the quotas for the export of agricultural products to the EU, which will come into force on October 29, 2025.

The next review towards increasing access to the EU market will take place in 2028.
