Ukraine harvested 2.7 thousand tons of rice

Odesa region is the only region in Ukraine where agricultural producers currently grow rice. Its gross collection this year was 2.7 thousand tons.
This was reported by Alla Stoyanova, director of the Department of Agrarian Policy, Food and Land Relations of Odesa government.
“Odesa region was one of the first regions to complete harvesting of early grain and leguminous crops on an area of 991,000 hectares and threshed 2.6 million tons of grain, including 1.7 million tons of wheat. According to this indicator, the region ranks first in the country,” Alla Stoyanova emphasized.
According to her, in August, the farmers of the south of Odesa were the first in Ukraine to start the sowing campaign of winter crops for the 2023 harvest. 167,000 hectares of winter rapeseed, 540,000 hectares of winter wheat and 133,000 hectares of winter barley have been sown in the region, which is 80 and 70% of the planned areas under these crops.
Alla Stoyanova also assured that there is no shortage of food in the region, Odesa is fully provided with food products for both permanent residents and immigrants.
“Our region has solid food security due to the fact that we produce 5-6 times more goods than we consume. Now you and I are united by the main goal — victory and support of the fighting spirit of Ukrainians,” said the director of the department.
