Ukraine falls to 3rd place among exporters of sunflower oil to India
In the period from November 2022 to September 2023, India increased the import volumes of crude sunflower oil to almost 2.85 mln tonnes, which is 58% higher than the result for the same period of the previous agricultural year (1.8 mln tonnes). Such data were released by analysts of the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA).
According to the industry association, Russia supplied the largest amount of sunflower oil to India in 10 months – more than 922.2 thsd tonnes. Romania comes next with 563.6 thsd tonnes. Ukraine is the third with 487.3 thsd tonnes. Argentina is also among the major suppliers, with 461.1 thousand tons.
Imports of crude palm oil (CPO) increased by about a third over the year, from 5.24 million tons to 6.95 million tons. The main volumes were supplied by Indonesia and Malaysia – 3.5 million tons and 2.4 million tons respectively. Over 700 thousand tons of CPO were also shipped to India from Thailand.
As for crude soybean oil, its imports, on the contrary, decreased by 8% to 3.54 million tons. Argentina and Brazil became the key suppliers of the product from November to September of 2022/23 MY – 1.8 mln tonnes and 1.4 mln tonnes respectively. Russia exported almost 152 thsd tonnes to the Indian market, and Thailand – 62 thsd tonnes.
