Ukraine. Autumn growth of winter grains is noticeably slower and slacker than in 2018
Weather conditions. It was mostly warm and dry on October 21-31.
Moisture supply. Almost no precipitation occurred on October 21-31, except for minor rainfall in the central and northern regions (0.5 mm to 1.5 mm). Morning dense fog and intense dew were observed all over the country, slowing down fieldwork progress.
Crop condition. Availability of topsoil moisture combined with warm weather led to favorable conditions for even emergence and further development of winter crops. Due to insufficient content of effective moisture in the soil, this year’s autumn growth of winter grains is noticeably slower and slacker than in 2018. Further development of winter grains and their winter survival will depend on the duration of the autumn growing season and on winter temperatures, reports UkrAgroConsult.
