Tunisia will become the second largest olive oil producer, ahead of Italy and Greece
According to a new forecast from the International Olive Council (IOC), the upcoming 2025-2026 agricultural year will see a significant shift in power among the world’s largest olive oil producers. Tunisia will take second place in the global rankings, surpassing traditional leaders such as Turkey, Greece, and Italy. Spain will remain the undisputed leader.
The IOC has published expected figures for the top 5 producing countries:
- Spain: 1.372 million tons (down 3%).
- Tunisia: 450,000 tons (up 32%).
- Italy: 300,000 tons (up 21%).
- Turkey: 290,000 tons (down 43%).
- Greece: 220,000 tons (down 12%).
The forecast represents a significant change compared to the preliminary results for the 2024-2025 agricultural year, which ranked Spain, Turkey, Tunisia, Greece, and Italy. Thus, Tunisia will not only increase production but also move up two positions, while Italy, despite its growth, will move from fifth to third place.
The IOC estimates that total global olive oil production in 2025-2026 will be approximately 3.44 million tonnes, a 4% decrease from the previous season.
