Trump imposes additional 25% tariffs on India for buying Russian crude oil
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on imports from India in response to its continued purchases of Russian oil. This was reported on the White House website.
As indicated, this rate of duty will be applied to goods entering the US market starting at 12:01 a.m. 21 days after the date of the order.
The order states that if India takes “retaliatory measures” against the United States in response to these actions, Trump may change this order.
The Trump administration has also warned that the US president may impose similar duties on other countries that directly or indirectly buy oil from Russia.
The document states that the US government will monitor whether any other country buys oil from Russia.
Recall that earlier US President Donald Trump announced that from August 1, 2025, he would introduce a 25% tariff on imported goods from India, as the country is one of the largest importers of Russian oil.
After that, Trump said that he would significantly increase tariffs against India for reselling Russian oil.
