Trump believes China could buy more than $40 bln worth of soybeans from the US
The US President added that Chinese President Xi Jinping “will do even more than he promised.”
US President Donald Trump believes China could purchase more than $40 billion worth of soybeans from American producers. The head of state stated this at a meeting with agricultural industry representatives at the White House.
“As you know, China is buying incredible volumes of soybeans,” the head of the Washington administration noted. “I spoke with President Xi Jinping recently, very recently. And I think he will do even more than he promised,” Trump added, without specifying when the conversation took place. “I think the relationship is very good. I think he will do more than he promised, and he promised to do a lot.”
“China has committed to purchasing more than $40 billion worth of soybeans,” the president added. “I asked President Xi Jinping if he could exceed that figure. And I think he will,” he added.
On November 24, Trump said that in a phone call with Xi Jinping, he discussed, among other things, China’s purchases of U.S. soybeans. Reuters reported on November 26 that China purchased at least 10 shipments of soybeans from the United States worth approximately $300 million. The report noted that China is increasing its imports of American soybeans, even though they are more expensive than Brazilian ones.
Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that China had agreed to purchase 12 million tons of American soybeans by January 2026. Bessent clarified that Beijing had committed to purchasing 87.5 million tons of soybeans from the United States over three years.
