The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi paid a working visit to Odessa region.

One of the priority areas of the Ministry’s work is sowing in the country, as well as solving the problem of logistics for food exports.

In connection with the hostilities in the country, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and its partners are looking for alternative logistical routes to send our cargo through European seaports. Currently, deliveries are made mainly by rail across the western border.

“Today, the creation of alternative logistics for the export of domestic agricultural products is a vital issue for the economy of our country,” said Mykola Solskyi.

According to Mykola Solskyi, solutions will be proposed in the near future.

Let’s recall that in 2021 Ukraine harvested a record crop of cereals, legumes and oilseeds – almost 110 million tons, including cereals and legumes – more than 85 million tons, oilseeds – almost 25 million tons.

Demand for domestic consumption of grain for Ukraine – 20 million tons per year, oil – about 13 million tons.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that the state will buy grain and other food supplies in the amount of annual consumption throughout the country from the state budget. This means that the Government of Ukraine is forming a reserve that guarantees Ukrainians a stable food supply.

Global markets depend as much as possible on Ukrainian agricultural crops. To understand, 60% of world oil exports are to Ukraine. The country exports 16 major cereals and legumes – and is one of the world’s leading exporters.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has already stated the threat of mass famine and food crisis in the world in connection with the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“The war in Ukraine has already disrupted supply chains and is causing a sharp rise in fuel, food and transport prices. We must do everything we can to prevent a hurricane of famine and the collapse of the global food system,” Mr Guterres said.

In recent years, exports of agricultural products to other countries by the end of the year brought our country more than $ 20 billion – and this was 45-50% of all exports of Ukraine.

In addition, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky recently met with the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania – Secretary of State Ionel Scriostianu, to discuss logistical routes for sending our cargo through European seaports, including the Romanian seaport of Constanta. And also possibilities of railway transportations, increase in volumes of transit transportations by freight transport.
