The quality of French soft wheat this year is below the annual average
Some quality indicators of this year’s soft wheat harvest in France are lower than the average of recent years. These were the preliminary results of the joint research of FranceAgriMer analysts and the Arvalis Crop Production Institute, Reuters reports.
Experts determined the actual weight for 61% of the wheat harvested at that time, and also checked the number of fallen wheat in 53% of the crop.
The share of wheat with a natural weight of more than the standard 760 g/l is only 30%, while in the last 5 years it was equal to 76% of the gross harvest.
The share of wheat harvest with protein content above 11% has also decreased, this year it is 78%, while in the last 55 years this figure reached 85%.
However, the falling number of this year’s harvest is above average, with 99% of the wheat tested having a falling number of more than 240 seconds, while in the previous 5 years, 87% had this quality.
