The Polish government has reached an agreement with the blockers of checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. The protest will be suspended until March 1
The Polish government has managed to reach an agreement with local carriers who have been blocking the border crossing with Ukraine for freight transport since November. They are to suspend their protest on Wednesday from 13:00 Kyiv time.
Tomasz Borkowski of the Committee for the Protection of Transport Carriers and Employers told Reuters.
“This is not the end, but the protest will be suspended… We have agreed on certain conditions, we will give the government time to work, as it is a new government,” said Tomasz Borkowski.
The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure has organized a press conference on Tuesday at 13:00 Kyiv time, during which an agreement with the carriers is to be signed.
Polish farmers decided to suspend their protest at the Medyka border crossing with Ukraine after the government agreed to their demands earlier this month.
However, carriers continued to block three other checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border.
Updated.
According to the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Poland, Dariusz Klimczak, the parties agreed that the protests would be stopped at three checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border by March 1.
“The action will end by March 1. This does not mean the end of the dialog. On the contrary, we are starting very intensive and constructive negotiations that are aimed at producing a concrete effect,” he was quoted as saying by the RAP news agency.
