The new EU agricultural policy should take into account Ukraine’s position
Ukraine is now awaiting the EU’s approval to continue trade liberalization. This issue is almost agreed upon, and the final decision will be made by April 25.
This was announced by Oleg Khomenko, CEO of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB ), during the Black Sea Grain 2024 conference.
According to him, after that, Ukraine will face no less turbulent times on the way to European integration and cooperation with the EU.
“The first is the parliamentary elections to the European Parliament to be held in June. Then there is the appointment of a new European Commission and, in addition, the presidency of the EU Council, which will be held by Hungary in July and Poland in January. At the same time, it is very important for us that when the new European Parliament develops new agricultural policies that will come into effect in 2027, Ukraine’s position is taken into account,” said Oleg Khomenko.
He added that there are expectations from the new European Parliament that under the pressure of the public and farmers’ movements, there will be changes in European approaches to the Green Deal and food safety. That is why the EU is now using a strategic approach involving associations, where changes to the common agricultural policy and certain easements will be discussed.
