Talks on the extension of the “grain deal” continue – Erdogan
Negotiations to extend the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain, which expires on July 17, are ongoing. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a press conference following the NATO summit in Vilnius.
According to him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “wants this, and Mr. Putin has some proposals.”
“We are working on a solution that would take into account these proposals,” Erdogan said.
He confirmed that Turkey is “ready to play the role of a mediator.”
“Grain deal”
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, African countries have been left without Ukrainian supplies of grain and other agricultural products due to Russia’s blockade of ports in the Black Sea.
Later, Turkey and the UN signed two separate agreements with Russia and Ukraine to create a humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea.
Recently, Kremlin officials have been actively stating their refusal to extend the “grain deal” after July 17. In particular, the Russian dictator’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov recently said that “the ‘grain deal’ has no chance.” Representatives of the aggressor country justify this by saying that no one is fulfilling the terms of the agreement on the export of Russian ammonia through Ukraine.
At the same time, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olga Trofimtseva said she was 99.9% sure that Russia would withdraw from the grain deal in July.
