Syngenta announced the addition of eight new hybrids to its NK Seeds corn portfolio for the 2025 growing season, marking the largest expansion of the portfolio in over a decade.

The company, which employs 6,500 people in research and development (R&D) worldwide and invests $1.4 billion annually in R&D, has emphasized that this product launch aims to support growers in improving yields with seeds designed for a variety of farming conditions.

“Our steadfast commitment to investing in research and development is instrumental in grower success,” said Dan Wright, head of Syngenta Seeds Canada in a news release. “This range of corn seed options is a testament to our scientific diligence in tailoring agricultural solutions to the unique regional needs of Canadian growers.”

In celebration of the 140th anniversary of continuous seed sales, Syngenta hosted a Field Day event at the Arva Research and Development Innovation Center. The event brought together 130 growers and dealers, who were given a preview of the new portfolio and heard from the company’s corn development, trait, and breeding team about the R&D efforts behind the launch.

NK Seeds, originally established as Northrup-King Seed Company in 1884, has a long history of innovation, being the first private seed company in North America with a formal R&D program and the first to commercialize a biotech trait in corn.

“Today, we’re excited to continue that 140-year-old legacy of innovation,” said Mark Kerry, Head of Sales for Syngenta Seeds Canada. “We’re bringing more reliable and high-performing corn genetics to our customers faster than ever — with traits such as insect and drought resistance and improved genetics for better standability and disease tolerance.”

“With this new corn portfolio launch, NK Seeds helps provide more choice and innovative technology to farmers,” added Matt Rundle, Syngenta Seeds corn product placement specialist. “Our new corn portfolio, backed by our rich legacy and continuous research, is just the beginning of what farmers will see from Syngenta Seeds in the coming years.”
