Suspension of USAID programs will have a negative impact on the Ukrainian agricultural sector
Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval said that the suspension of funding for programs by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will have a negative impact on the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
“Of course, the suspension of funding for USAID projects will have a negative impact on the Ukrainian agricultural sector. After all, many producers were waiting for the delivery of equipment already financed by both programs and their own funds,” he said at the Grain Storage Forum.
The minister noted that it is too risky for Ukraine to rely on financing from one source in the context of war. Therefore, the government is looking for options to replace American funds with European funding for the projects launched.
Mykola Gorbachov, President of the Ukrainian Grain Association, added that, according to his information, the suspension of financial support has led to the possibility that 160 highly qualified specialists may be fired from the Ukrainian office of USAID under various programs.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
