Sunseed prices in Ukraine may decrease by 500–700 UAH/t

In Ukraine, sunflower seeds, which until recently held high price positions, is gradually becoming cheaper. Processing plants are restrained in purchases, which affects the market. This is reported by the analytical department of the agricultural cooperative PUSK, created within the VAR.

“A significant supply of sunflower seeds allowed processors to cover about 60-70% of their needs for February. The purchasing activity of processors is gradually decreasing, and the willingness to pay premiums to the indicators has actually disappeared. If at the beginning of last week many were ready to bargain and give bonuses, now the market is already recording the first attempts to put pressure on prices,” analysts note.

In the short term, a further decrease in quotations is expected on the sunflower market. “During peak periods, sunseed with an oil content of 48% was traded at the levels of 29,500–29,700 UAH/t for small lots, but now the quotes are mostly in the range of 28,800–29,000 UAH/t. Now we see a local maximum, and in the short term the price may adjust by 500–700 UAH/t,” the PUSK predicts. At the same time, there are no grounds for a sharp market collapse.

“The supply of sunseed remains limited, which forms a relatively strong price base. In the absence of significant negative factors in February–March, the market may again try to test the levels of 29,500–30,000 UAH/t,” analysts believe.
