Sunseed in Ukraine fell by $10 in a week: prices continue to fall
The sunflower seed market in Ukraine lost about $10 in a week. Prices continue to decline due to uncertainty in the logistics of processed products and rising energy prices. This increases the cost of production and puts pressure on the purchase price, Spike Brokers reports.
According to them, against the backdrop of weak domestic demand, producers have begun to export sunflower seeds more actively: the first deals to Bulgaria were closed at $620-625/t.
“Sales to Europe remain more profitable than domestic processing even taking into account the 1.8% duty – the difference in some places reaches $30. The estimated volume of export sales per week is about 10 thousand tons,” brokers note.
The spot index of sunseed for delivery for processing within 30 days decreased by $9 to $633/t with VAT ($563/t without VAT). Due to problems with oil transshipment, there are practically no buyers on the CPT; sunflower meal is held at the level of $220-230/t.
At the same time, sunflower oil from the Black Sea region continues to rise in price: prices have increased by another $10, supported by stable demand. Indications for January-February: FOB Black Sea — 1290, CIF Mersin — 1310 $/t, CIF Seville — 1390 $/t; February-March: CIF/DAP Ravenna — 1380 $/t, CIF Spain — 1390 $/t.
“Oil from the 2026 harvest is trading at a discount of about $200. Demand in Europe is stable, especially in Seville ($1390/t in January-February). On the Indian route, activity is mainly in Russian oil. “The market is supported by logistical risks after another Russian attack on oil infrastructure at the port of Yuzhny,” Spike Brokers added.
