Grain from Ukraine

The vessel «MV Future ID» has arrived in Sudan with 14,076 thousand tons of flour milled with Ukrainian wheat. This is the second consignment of humanitarian aid under the initiative of  President Zelenskyy «Grain from Ukraine», delivered to Sudan by the World Food Programme (WFP).

The first batch of humanitarian aid was delivered to the Port of Khartoum (Sudan) on February 22, 2024. The «MV Ocean Dream» transported 7,665 tons of flour produced from Ukrainian wheat.

The donors of the two shipments were Germany, which provided 15 million USD as well as Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Spain and the Netherlands which are also contributed 23.8 million USD to finance the second shipment of flour.

The Ukrainian wheat flour will be distributed by WFP as part of food packages for 2 million people in Sudan affected by the war.

For reference:

Almost 18 million people in Sudan are currently facing acute food shortages. According to the United Nations, about 5 million of them are in a state of extreme hunger (IPC4).

The harvest of major cereals (sorghum, millet and wheat) is 41% below the average for the last 5 years.

Therefore, food assistance in the framework of the «Grain from Ukraine» initiative is extremely important to save lives and prevent an even worse situation.
