Since the beginning of the season, barley prices have risen more in percentage terms than wheat and corn. This has led to the fact that winter barley was sown by farmers quite actively.
This was stated by Maksym Kharchenko, grain market analyst at UkrAgroConsult, during the All-Ukrainian practical forum “Agronomy Day”.
“We expect that the planted areas under grains will increase this season. This is due to the fact that the difference between the margins of grains and oilseeds is not as big as it was before. Therefore, we expect the grain harvest to grow to 60 mln tonnes,” predicts Maksym Kharchenko.
He adds that the planted areas for grains will depend on the availability of moisture in the soil in March and April.
“We expect a change in the structure of crops, there will be a significant competition for the area between wheat and sunflower, as well as between corn and soybeans,” the analyst said.
