According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs, China imported 6.571 million tons of soybeans in January 2026, down 1.473 million tons from December and 1.209 million tons from January 2025, a decline of 15.54%, according to SunSirs, the China National Commodity Market Research Center.
In February 2026, China imported 5.976 million tons of soybeans, down 595,000 tons from January but up 146,000 tons, or 2.5%, from February 2025.
From January to February 2026, China’s total soybean imports totaled 12.55 million tons, down 7.8% from the previous year.
As the analyst noted separately, China’s trade balance with the United States amounted to 609.71 billion yuan in the first two months, a decrease of 16.9%. However, the trade balance with ASEAN countries and the European Union increased by approximately 20%.
It was previously reported that China will become a net exporter of soybean oil for the second year in a row. Going forward, the country’s oil consumption is expected to grow at a slower pace, with the slight increase in soybean oil consumption driven by a significant increase in processing volumes.
