Soybean and pulse prices in Germany 11% lower than last year

The 2025/26 season is starting with a significant decline in prices for field peas, beans and soybeans produced in Germany, according to the German Association for the Promotion of Oilseeds and Cereals (UFOP). However, German farmers are optimistic and predict that this year’s harvest will be satisfactory. The first data on yield and quality are encouraging.

The International Grains Council expects the global supply of pulses to be higher this season than in the previous marketing year. A record soybean harvest is forecast in the United States, one of the world’s largest soybean exporters, as well as in Brazil, also the world’s largest soybean producer. However, sowing there will not begin until autumn. At the same time, unpredictable demand from China, the world’s largest consumer, creates great uncertainty about future sales markets, which is putting pressure on prices on the world market.

In Germany, the area under field peas, beans and soybeans was expanded to 247,500 hectares in the spring, which is around 7% more than in the previous year. Market participants are optimistic that this will also lead to an increase in the harvest.

Producer prices for these three crops are showing a seasonal decline due to the harvest. According to Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (mbH), the 2025/26 marketing year began in July with a drop in producer prices for soybeans of 374 euros per tonne, which is as much as 11% below the previous year’s level, as well as for beans and peas, which are more than 18% below the previous year’s level.

The UFOP notes that despite the price decline, interest in legumes remains weak. Since the prices offered do not cover costs, many farmers are waiting, watching the market developments and storing their crops.
