Serbia’s autumn wheat planting increases, but yield declines

In autumn 2024, Serbia planted 590,483 hectares of wheat, marking an 8.6% increase compared to the previous year, according to the national statistical office. Barley sowing also rose by 1% to 96,369 hectares, while rye sowings slightly declined by 1.7% to 4,531 hectares. At the same time, the area sown with oats decreased by 9% to 13,040 hectares, whereas rapeseed sowing surged by 37%, reaching 48,445 hectares.
Despite the expanded wheat area, Serbia’s wheat harvest in 2024 totaled 2.9 million tonnes, down 16% compared to 2023.
Further development of the grain sector in the Black Sea and Danube region will be discussed at the 22nd International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN. EUROPE-2025 on February 13 – 14 in Prague.
