Safrinha Corn in Paraguay 90% Harvested and 43% Sold
Farmers in Paraguay have harvested approximately 90% of their 2023/24 safrinha corn and they have sold 43% of their 2023/24 corn production, which is the lowest in four years, according to StoneX. The safrinha corn production is estimated at 3.64 million tons.
Approximately 49% of Paraguay’s corn production will be consumed domestically with the remainder exported primarily through ports in Argentina and Uruguay. Some of Paraguay’s corn will be trucked across the border to livestock producers in southern Brazil where there is always a corn deficit.
Safrinha corn competes with safrinha soybeans for acreage in Paraguay. The ratio between corn and soybeans as a second crop depends to some extent when the first crop of soybeans are planted. If the first soybean crop is planted later than normal, farmers may then reduce their safrinha corn acreage because it would be planted later than desired and subject to potential dry weather or even frost.
StoneX is estimating Paraguay’s 2024/25 corn production at 4.71 million tons.
