SAFRAS lifts Brazil’s soybean production estimate to 155.66 mln tons

Brazilian soybean production in 2022/23 is expected to total 155.66 mln tons, up 21.1% over the previous season’s crop, which totaled 128.5 mln tons. The estimate was disclosed by SAFRAS & Mercado. If confirmed, it will be the biggest crop in history.

In April, when the previous report was released, the projection was 155.08 mln tons. The increase over the previous estimate is 0.37%.

SAFRAS indicates an increase of 4.8% in the area, estimated at 44.39 mln hectares. In 2021/22, planting occupied 42.34 mln hectares. The survey points out that the average yield should increase from 3,050 to 3,530 kg/ha.

The advance and completion of the harvest in most of the country confirmed the expectation of high average yields in important growing states. As a result, positive adjustments were made to the expected average yield in states across all regions, with emphasis on the states of Paraná, Mato Grosso, and Bahia, which are reaching yield records.

On the other hand, the state of Rio Grande do Sul again had its expected average yield reduced due to the weather problems that affected part of the state this season. Even so, the average yield in the state will be higher than that registered last crop, as this season’s problems were less severe.
