Russia. Winter grains enjoyed fair conditions for entering the winter
Weather conditions. On January 11-20, air temperatures in the Northwestern, Central, Volga, Southern, North Caucasian federal districts and Western Siberia were 7-11°C above normal, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Moisture supply. The Northwestern, Central, Volga districts received precipitation (15-25 mm) in the form of snow, sleet and rain. As of January 20, snow cover was seen in the eastern half of the Northwestern district, in the northeast and most of the southern half of the Central district, and in most of the Volga federal district. The height of snow cover varied from 1-3 cm to 10-25 cm. The soil was frozen to a depth of 10-20 cm, even to 35-60 cm in the south of the Volga district. It was thawed in the west of the territory. The lowest soil temperature at a 3-cm depth was -1…0°C. The Southern and North Caucasian federal districts received 5-10 mm of precipitation. The height of snow cover is 5-10 cm.
Winter grains in Western Siberia were under snow cover ranging from 20-25 cm in southwestern areas to 30-40 cm and higher in the majority of other parts of the territory.
Crop condition. Winter grains in the Northwestern, Central, Volga, Southern, North Caucasian federal districts and Western Siberia enjoyed fair conditions for entering the winter season.
