Russia. The conditions were mostly fair for winter grains
Weather conditions. In February, the Northwestern, Central, Volga, Southern, North Caucasian federal districts and Western Siberia were exposed to abnormally warm weather.
Moisture supply. Precipitation in the Northwestern, Central, Volga federal districts occurred in the form of snow, sleet – it even rained on the warmest days. In most areas, the monthly amount of precipitation ranged from 25 to 55-60 mm. In late February, western areas of the territory were covered with at most 1-3 cm or even no snow. In most parts of the Central federal district, the snow cover height in the fields was 5-15 cm. It reached 25-60 cm in the eastern half of the Northwestern district and in most of the Volga one. The soil was frozen mainly to a depth of 5-20 cm.
The Southern and North Caucasian federal districts received 20-40 mm of precipitation over the month. In Western Siberia, winter grains were under snow cover ranging from 25-30 cm to 40-50 cm (reaching 55-70 cm and more in some eastern areas). Owing to that large amount of snow, the frosts posed no threat to winter grains. The minimum soil temperature at the depth of tillering node of winter crops (3 cm) was at -6…-1°C almost everywhere.
Crop condition. The conditions were mostly fair for winter grains, UkrAgroConsult reports.
