Russia. Grain areas are decreasing due to farmers’ financial problems

Russian farmers are being forced to reduce their sown areas due to a lack of financing and rising prices for agricultural machinery and fertilizers. According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the area under grain crops may decrease by 5–7% in 2025, which will affect the production of wheat and other key crops.
Many farms are reviewing the areas under winter grains, and there is a clear trend towards their reduction or a decrease in the intensity of technological operations during cultivation. The same applies to spring crops, which farmers are increasingly replacing with oilseeds and legumes.
The situation is particularly difficult in the regions of Central Russia and the Volga region, where farmers report problems with obtaining loans and purchasing seeds. Experts predict that this may lead to a reduction in grain exports, which, in turn, opens up additional opportunities for Ukrainian agricultural producers on the world market.
Further development of the grain sector in the Black Sea and Danube region will be discussed at the 23 International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN.KYIV on April 24 in Kyiv.
