Russia believes that the adoption of the “No Russian Agricultural Act” in the United States will be tantamount to a ban on food imports
The United States will informally – without any documents stating this – impose a ban on imports of agricultural products from Russia and will seek to have other countries join it. This opinion was expressed by Alexander Korbut, Vice President of the Russian Grain Union, commenting on the consequences of the adoption of the “No Russian Agricultural Act” by the US Lower House of Congress.
“The US position will be as follows: ‘If you want to receive American products on some special terms, give up Russian products’. In fact, the new act is a US sanction, an effort to limit the export of Russian agricultural products, to squeeze Russia out of the global agricultural market.”
According to Corbut, the No Russian Agricultural Act applies not only to grain, but also to almost all agricultural products from Russia. The Vice President of the Union emphasized that the United States is primarily targeting the Southern states, Russia’s main market, including Africa and developing Asian countries.
