Romanian farmers are getting ready to harvest sunflower
Weather conditions. Air temperatures in Romania were at +18..+30°C, or 2..4°C above long-term normal levels, even 4..6°C above normal in some southeastern areas.
On July 30-31, air temperature in the regions bordering with Bulgaria reached +36..+39°C.
Moisture supply. Precipitation events become less intensive, effective rain only occurred in the south and southwest (25-35 mm over the week). High air temperatures lead to rapid evaporation of soil moisture. For now, the soil contains enough moisture for corn and sunflower in their key growth stages.
Locally in the south, sunflower is already waxy ripe and yield expectations are optimistic there.
On August 4-11, effective precipitation is only expected in the south and southwest (25-35 mm). Air temperatures will drop, but they will continue exceeding long-term normal levels (1..4°C) in the central and eastern regions.
Farmers have almost finished harvesting winter crops. They will begin mass harvest of sunflower in the coming several weeks, UkrAgroConsult reports.
