The 2025/26 season opens with growing rapeseed area up to 703K ha officially planted, vs. a 5-year average of 490K ha. Rumors claim the real area may push 800K–1M ha, with never seen before Romanian rapeseed crop.
However, yield is expected lower. This is explained by reduced spending on fertilizers—crucial for rapeseed. Early harvests already started in the south
Timely rains influence Romania’s SFS positively
- Yield forecast is +7% vs. the 5-year average
- Production is up 50% y/y, recovering sharply from 2024 disaster (+68%)
Despite 2024 short crop, SFS exports in 2024/25 were unexpectedly strong, fueled by high prices and solid Turkish demand. Exporters gained; crushers struggled.
As a result, Romanian crushers began importing Ukrainian crude sunflower oil and refining it locally.
Romania’s oilseed production is expanding—but the processing lags, due to low revenues and competitive global SFO prices.
