Protests by Polish farmers caused kilometer-long traffic jams on the border with Germany
Polish farmers have blocked two important highways on the way from Poland to Germany, causing drivers to take detours and seriously hampering traffic on these roads.
According to RMF24, in particular, the A2 highway is blocked near the village of Świeczko in Lubuskie Voivodeship on the way to Berlin. Farmers have been standing there since the middle of the day on Sunday, and the traffic is completely blocked.
Drivers in the area of the town of Jordańowo are being directed to take a detour to the north via the S3 road. Some travelers who spoke to journalists early in the morning reported that traffic jams of about 5 km long had formed on the bypass road through Olshyn.
Highway 32 near the village of Hubinek was also blocked, with protesters allowing only border guards, ambulances and police to pass through.
The slogans of the protest are the same as during previous actions throughout Poland and on the border with Ukraine: farmers want changes to the requirements imposed on them under the new EU environmental legislation and regulation of the influx of “products from Ukraine and other countries outside the EU” to the European market.
The protesters had previously announced that the blockade on the border with Germany would last for 4 days.
As reported, on March 15, Polish farmers announced a blockade on one of the roads between Poland and Slovakia. It is planned to last until the end of March.
