Protest continues: Romanian farmers block the border crossing with Ukraine again
In Romania, farmers and agrarians are again blocking truck traffic through the Siret-Porubne checkpoint. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on January 14.
It is noted that the relevant information was received from representatives of the Romanian border police at about 14:00.
The SBGS noted that the registration of all types of vehicles, as well as pedestrians, for leaving Ukraine is carried out in accordance with the established procedure.
Protests in Romania: what is happening?
Romanian farmers and trucking companies have been protesting in several regions for several days over rising prices for car insurance and fuel. They accuse the Romanian government of prioritizing foreign companies while domestic transportation and agricultural firms are on the verge of bankruptcy.
The protesters demand, in particular:
- abolish double taxation;
- optimize customs processes;
- to regulate anti-dumping legislation.
Yesterday, on January 13, the protesters blocked truck traffic through the Siret checkpoint. The blockade lasted for six hours and then ended.
That evening, representatives of the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure met with the hauliers and farmers, setting out a number of points to resolve the situation that could be implemented within 30 days. Nevertheless, the protest continued.
