Precipitation in South America and the United States, as well as dry weather in Ukraine and Russia will affect grain markets next week
Increased rainfall in Central Brazil and Argentina allows to accelerate the sowing of soybeans and corn, which reduces the speculative impact on prices, and warm and dry weather in the United States contributes to the harvesting of late crops and sowing of winter wheat in anticipation of the forecasted precipitation.
In the East of Ukraine and South-West of Russia, dry weather has a negative impact on winter crops, but no rain is expected in the next 10-14 days.
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, effective rains have replenished productive moisture reserves in all soil layers in most of Ukraine. Only in some areas of Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovs’k regions, soil drought persisted due to a lack of precipitation. As of October 20, the top 0-10 cm of soil in areas where it rained remained very or well moistened for a long time. Temperatures close to normal contributed to the massive germination of winter wheat sown in early October, but due to cold snaps and night frosts, only some seedlings appeared. The phase development of winter crops is 2-3 weeks behind the long-term average, so their condition and winter hardiness will depend on the weather in the fall and winter, especially on the amount of precipitation.
In central Brazil, the rainy season continues, which accelerates the sowing of soybeans and corn, although the rainfall is still below normal. At the same time, in the southern regions, the intensity of rains is much higher, so sowing is almost complete.
In Argentina, heavy rains have reduced drought conditions in wheat and corn crops and replenished moisture reserves ahead of soybean planting, which will begin in November. Rains in the next 10-14 days will improve the harvest prospects.
Dry weather in the Midwest and the Plains of the United States has a negative impact on winter wheat crops, but accelerates its sowing and harvesting of soybeans and corn. Next week in the region will be heavy rains, which will replenish moisture reserves and improve the condition of the plants.
In the North-West of Europe and Italy continue excessive rainfall, which delays the harvest and sowing of winter wheat. According to forecasts, the rains will continue next week. At the same time, eastern Europe is suffering from a lack of moisture needed for rooting of winter crops.
In eastern Australia, there were heavy rains, which will continue next week and improve the prospects for the harvest of wheat, barley and canola. But in some areas there was no rainfall, which may reduce the harvest, which will begin in November and December.
