Polish Sejm approves resolution to impose sanctions on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland has approved a resolution imposing sanctions on the import of Russian and Belarusian food and agricultural products to the European Union. This was reported by Polish Radio.
As noted, 441 deputies voted in favor, while two abstained from voting. The draft resolution was prepared by the Presidium of the Sejm.
In the resolution, the lower house of the Polish parliament calls on the European Commission to impose sanctions on imports of Russian and Belarusian food and agricultural products to the European Union.
The Polish Sejm also points out that imports of agricultural products from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus continue to bring huge revenues to producers, traders and budgets of these countries.
Presenting the position of the Civic Coalition, MP Marta Wrzesło noted that Poland should convince the entire European community to stand up to the regimes and be in solidarity with Ukraine.
“The resolution meets the needs of Polish and European farmers, is the voice of the Polish parliament, and at the same time strengthens the position of the Polish government in negotiations with the European Union. The document calls on the European Union to return to the rules that were in force in trade with Ukraine and other non-EU countries before the outbreak of a full-scale war, which meets the basic requirements of Polish farmers,” the politician emphasized.
Witold Tumanowicz of the Confederation party expressed support for the resolution, but, in his opinion, the government should take concrete actions.
“It is our moral duty to stop trade that may directly or indirectly contribute to strengthening the capacity of Russia and the Belarus that supports it to continue the war with Ukraine. Especially since Russian imports may contain grain stolen from the occupied territories of Ukraine,” the document says.
