Polish officials meet to discuss ASF control
The issue of combating African swine fever (ASF) on Polish territory and intensifying activities in this area – are the topics of last week’s meeting of Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak and Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak with representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Polish Hunting Association, State Forests and Chief Veterinary Officer, according to a government-issued press release.
During the meeting, issues were widely discussed, the implementation of which is important from the point of view of activities carried out in connection with the fight against ASF in pigs and wild boars. The participants of the meeting emphasized that it is necessary to fulfill the previously adopted commitments and maintain the continuity of activities undertaken in the field of the disease in wild boars.
Among the most important issues raised during the meeting was the completion of work on the National Plan for the management of the wild boar population as part of the prevention, control and control of African swine fever. The plan was created in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate and Environment and is currently awaiting its adoption.
During the meeting, the issue of the availability of appropriate refrigerated containers to hold shot boar carcasses, and to search for dead wild boars using properly trained dogs was also raised. According to the participants of the meeting, the use of a team with dogs increases the effectiveness of the search and is an alternative to traditional search actions.
The interlocutors agreed that the implementation of individual tasks requires close cooperation and dialogue of all interested parties.
