Polish MPs want to impose a complete embargo on agricultural products from Ukraine and Russia
Deputies of the Polish Law and Justice party will submit a draft resolution to the Sejm that provides, among other things, for a complete embargo on agricultural and food products from Ukraine and Russia. This is reported by Polish Radio.
“PiS announced on Tuesday that they would submit a draft resolution to the Sejm, which, among other things, calls on the government to impose a complete embargo on agricultural and food products from Ukraine and Russia, withdraw from the Green Deal, and introduce subsidies for farmers,” the article says.
According to MP Mariusz Blaszczak, the resolution was prepared by a community of protesting Polish farmers and contains three main messages.
“First, this is the issue that determines whether or not Polish agriculture should be or should not be, i.e. the embargo on food and agricultural products imported from Ukraine. Of course, we are in favor of this embargo also applying to food and agricultural products from Russia and Belarus,” Blaszczak said.
According to him, the second requirement of the resolution is the rejection of the so-called “Green Deal”. Blaszczak emphasized that the Green Deal “is really extremely dangerous for the future of agriculture – Polish and European.”
The third point of the resolution concerns compensation to farmers who suffer losses related to everything “related to Putin’s reconstruction of the Russian Empire and the consequences of the war that is the result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine.” The Polish government is obliged to support farmers, Blaszczak added.
According to former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, “today the agrarians have changed the work of the new government and prepared a resolution that has the full support of Law and Justice.
“The resolution obliges the government to take immediate measures that will protect the interests of the Polish countryside and the entire Polish economy,” Morawiecki was quoted as saying.
