The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop began last week. The arrival of rain in the state of Paraná encouraged growers to start sowing. In addition, some growers in Mato Grosso have also begun work, even though low moisture is still expected for the state. This week, work may begin in the states of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul.

According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, through September 20, Brazilian growers planted 0.5% of the total area expected for the country in the 2024/25 crop. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 215 thousand hectares sown, out of a total of 47.401 mln hectares estimated for planting. The previous week, there was no data, while in the same period last year the percentage was 1.6%. The five-year average for the period is 1.5%.

In Paraná, 3% of the area destined for soybeans have been planted. The percentage is equivalent to nearly 177 thousand hectares, out of a total of 5.9 mln hectares estimated for the state. The previous week, there was no data. In the same period last year, the percentage was 8%, while the five-year average for the period is 7%.

In Mato Grosso, out of a total expected area of 12.58 mln hectares, 0.3% have already been planted, equivalent to approximately 38 thousand hectares. The previous week, there was no data. In the same period last year, the percentage was 2%, while the five-year average for the period is 1.7%.

Climate maps indicate a period with some moisture in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and São Paulo between September 22 and 28. The other states in the central strip of the country are not expected to receive rain during this period.

In the period between September 29 and October 5, some moisture is expected in practically all the main growing states, although large accumulations are not expected. In any case, the arrival of moisture should encourage the work progress, bringing some recovery to the accumulated delays.
