Olive oil production declines in Italy

Production of extra virgin olive oil in Italy is estimated at about 290 thousand tons, which is significantly lower than the average for the last four years. This is according to a study by the Italian association of agricultural producers Coldiretti, which was published on the occasion of the opening of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.

It also notes that climate change is reducing harvests: in Italy, for example, the wine harvest could be reduced by 20% and fruit by 30%.

“At the moment in Italy, 2023 is the second warmest year since 1800 with temperatures 1.05 degrees higher than the historical average,” experts point out.
