Morocco’s fresh sweet corn exports to Germany hit new record
Morocco has continued to expand its fresh sweet corn exports to Germany for the second consecutive year, according to EastFruit.
In the first nine months of 2025, Moroccan exporters shipped more than 2,000 tons of fresh sweet corn to Germany, valued at USD 3.83 million. This volume has already surpassed the previous record set in 2024 by 18% and is double the shipments recorded in 2023.

Morocco’s first officially documented exports of fresh sweet corn to Germany date back to 2012, when 267 tons were delivered. Volumes grew steadily in the following years, exceeding 1,500 tons in 2020. Exports then declined between 2021 and 2023, before rebounding strongly in 2024 to set a new record.
Historically, Germany has ranked no higher than fourth among Morocco’s export destinations for sweet corn, behind the UK, Spain, and the Netherlands. However, in the first nine months of 2025, shipments to Germany outpaced those to the Netherlands by nearly 500 tons, positioning Germany to enter Morocco’s top three markets for the first time by year-end.

Spain remains Germany’s largest supplier of fresh sweet corn, though its market share has steadily declined over the past five years, from 65% in 2020 to 43% in 2024. Morocco has secured the second position, strengthening its foothold for the second year in a row. Moroccan sweet corn accounted for 12% of Germany’s imports in 2023, rose to 22% in 2024, and has already exceeded 30% in the first nine months of 2025. The Netherlands and France also remain key suppliers.
Moroccan shipments peak in April-May, aligning with Germany’s peak import season. During this period, Morocco’s share of the German market reaches as high as 60%. Last year also saw deliveries from a second harvest in October-December, an occurrence not seen in previous years. If this pattern repeats in 2025, Morocco’s final export volume to Germany is expected to set an even higher record.
Overall, Morocco’s fresh sweet corn exports exceeded 20,000 tons for the first time in the past season, underscoring the country’s growing role in the European market.
