More than 9 thsd vessels sailed through the Ukrainian sea corridor over the year

The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ensured the passage of 9061 civilian vessels through the sea corridor in 2024. This was announced by the Commander of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa.
Benefits for Ukraine
In particular, it is noted that in 2024, 9061 ships passed through the corridor, of which 4651 arrived in Ukraine and 4410 went to other ports.
This allowed Ukraine to export more than 74.4 million tons of cargo, including agricultural products, which is critical to supporting the national economy and global food security.
With nearly 80% of cargo being transported by sea, this process is crucial to ensuring global supply, said Neizhpapa.
He also added that the safety of navigation is ensured by the continuous work of the ship’s personnel and divers of the Navy.
As a result of this work, a significant number of “drifting” mines were destroyed, and no cases of explosions on sea mines were recorded in ports. In addition, the Navy constantly escorted cargo ships.
As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated €50 million from the EU to upgrade and repair port infrastructure. It is noted that the assistance will help restore key port infrastructure facilities damaged as a result of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
As part of this initiative, the funds will be used to support the functioning and development of seaports, overhaul the overpass of the Odesa Port State Enterprise, as well as to equip and protect port infrastructure facilities.
