More than 12 terminals are being built on the Ukrainian section of the Danube
More than 12 terminals are currently under construction along Ukraine’s Danube coast. Some of the terminals have already been built, said Yuriy Vaskov, Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure. According to him, there is currently a simplified law for the construction of new terminals, adopted last year, and local authorities are ready to offer land plots for construction, so the procedure is very simple.
Many market participants are currently building logistics infrastructure on the Danube due to insufficient capacity for grain storage and export. In particular, Nibulon is building a new terminal in Izmail; Kernel Agro Holding has acquired the Danube Prom Agro river terminal in the port of Reni. UDP, Asket Shipping, Danube Logistics Group, and others are also developing infrastructure on the Danube.
Earlier, Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov spoke about the first results of launching additional port capacities on the Danube, including
the operation of more than 20 new marine terminals;
new transshipment technologies using floating cranes, mobile reloaders, storage vessels as floating warehouses, and other means;
use of new temporary warehouses equipped with scales and laboratories.
In May, the ports of the Danube Region handled more than 3 million tons of cargo, which is an absolute record for them. This year, Ukraine plans to handle at least 20 million tons of cargo through the Danube.
Despite the fact that the ports of Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk have utilized almost all of their cargo handling capacities, there is still potential for further development. In particular, it is about modernizing and updating port infrastructure, attracting investments for the construction of new terminals and dredging. The investment requirement for Ukrainian ports on the Danube is at least $120 million.
