MFA Inc. (MFA), a farmer-owned agricultural cooperative, has reached an agreement to acquire four grain elevators in Missouri from ADM. The deal will expand MFA’s presence in the primary grain procurement segment and increase its access to markets. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The transaction includes rural grain storage facilities located in Montgomery City, Center, Novelty, and Shelbina, Missouri, with a combined licensed storage capacity of approximately 6 million bushels. The facilities are located in key grain-producing areas and, following the closing of the transaction, will be integrated into MFA’s existing network, according to a company statement on April 16.

“Grain procurement is a core service MFA provides to its members,” noted Jason Weirich, MFA’s Chief Operating Officer. He added that the addition of these new assets to the cooperative system will expand its network of receiving points and improve the efficiency of grain logistics. “This will also help maintain a competitive market environment and allow agricultural producers to gain additional benefits when selling their products through the cooperative,” he added.

MFA stated that it intends to honor existing grain supply contracts at the acquired sites, taking into account standard due diligence procedures and agreement terms. Following the completion of the transaction, operations at all sites will continue as normal.

“These sites are conveniently located to serve local producers,” Vayrich emphasized. “Our goal is to ensure the smooth flow of grain and reliable service for cooperative members.”

The transaction is expected to close in late summer 2026, subject to the fulfillment of standard conditions, including due diligence.

Vayrich also noted the significance of the transaction for local communities: “We view it as a long-term investment in the development of agriculture and rural areas.”

The transaction was approved by the MFA Board of Directors and is consistent with the cooperative’s long-term strategy, which calls for measured investments in infrastructure that directly supports agricultural producers.

MFA represents more than 45,000 farmer-owners in Missouri and neighboring states, providing grain trading, agronomic support, animal nutrition, and risk management services. The company operates 65 grain storage facilities with a total licensed capacity of 46.4 million bushels and is ranked 38th among North American grain infrastructure operators by Sosland Publishing’s Grain & Milling Annual 2026.

“As a cooperative, we evaluate every investment decision based on value to our members,” said MFA President and CEO Bob Huffman. “This investment strengthens our grain system and reaffirms MFA’s mission to serve and be managed by farmers.”

ADM, a global agribusiness company headquartered in Chicago, USA, is the largest grain infrastructure operator in North America, managing 345 grain storage facilities with a total licensed capacity of 444.5 million bushels, according to Grain & Milling Annual.
