Net profit at Malayan Flour Mills Bhd increased 49% to RM28.07 million ($6.67 million) in the second quarter ended June 30, up from RM18.83 million in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 6.4% to RM800.23 million ($190.22 million) from RM751.9 million, buoyed by higher sales volumes from the flour and grain trading segment, amidst lower selling prices.

Malayan Flour Mills said its flour and grain trading business generated operating profit of RM45.6 million in the second quarter, up from RM33.5 million in the same period a year ago. The increase reflected higher sales volume with better contribution margin due to lower wheat prices, the company said.

“The commodity prices of wheat and grain remain volatile and continue to be impacted by the persisting uncertainties in macroeconomic and geopolitical considerations,” the company noted in its Aug. 25 filing. “The company will continue to monitor the impact of commodity prices arising from the global supply and demand dynamics and adjust selling prices accordingly and to diversify the sources of wheat, corn and soybean meal.”

Malayan Flour Mills is the pioneer wheat flour milling company in Malaysia, with operations located at Lumut and Pasir Gudang and a total milling capacity of 1,810 tons of wheat per day.

The company offers an extensive selection of flour products, aiding in the creation of various essential foods, such as bread, noodles, buns, biscuits, pastries and cakes. The company’s offerings include high, medium, and low-protein wheat flour, self-raising wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and Japanese high-protein bread flour, catering to both commercial enterprises and domestic culinary needs.
