Lower freight costs from Ukraine’s deepwater ports allow traders to raise purchase prices

There is a surplus of available vessels and a shortage of new cargoes in the maritime transportation market, which contributes to the reduction of freight rates from deepwater ports of Ukraine, – analysts of Spike Brokers report.
“Thus, the freight rates for handysize cargoes to Italy fell to 16-17 USD/t, and to Spain – to 17-19 USD/t. At the same time, freight rates for barges from the Danube ports remain stable,” the report said.
As of January 15, market rates for transportation from the port of Izmail were:
- Romania – 9-10 €/t (1-3 thousand tons),
- the east coast of Italy – 27-29 $/t (5-7 thousand tons).
Rates for transportation from the port of Chernomorsk as of the specified date were as follows:
- the east coast of Italy – 16-17 $/t (30-35 thousand tons),
- the east coast of Spain – 17-19 $/t (25-30 thousand tons).
