Lentils: the most probable outsider in MY 2020/21

The export season for crops such as chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils started on September 1. The following was exported during the first two months of the season: chickpeas (+8% on the year), kidney beans (+23% on the year), lentils (-71% on the year).
The growth in the export of kidney beans was due to an increase in seeded areas by 15%, UkrAgroConsult reports.
Judging by the rise in shipments, Ukrainian farmers harvested a good crop of chickpeas. In all probability, chickpeas did account for most of the 21.2 Th ha reported by the State Statistics Service as planted to chickpeas and lentils.
Exports of peas in July-October, Ukraine’s main pulse crop, increased by 2% from last season. As before, the top importer is the EU, which increased purchases by 26%. Probably, demand from the EU is pushed up by replacement of corn as a feed component.
