KWS creates 9 vegetable varieties with better taste and transportability
The new varieties of beans, cucumbers, Swiss chard, melons, peppers, beets, spinach, tomatoes and watermelons from KWS must combine good taste and withstand transportation.
This was reported by the company’s press service.
More than 300 employees in 12 countries are working on nine crops, taking into account taste, appearance and logistics.
“Vegetable breeding has its challenges: taste, appearance and transportability do not always coincide,” the company notes.
KWS has established an international network of breeding centers in the Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Turkey, Italy and Mexico. The company recently expanded its research site in Andijk (Netherlands) and opened a modern development center.
Within three years, new varieties of all nine vegetable crops are planned to be brought to the market.
