Kernel estimates sunflower oil losses after Russian drone attack on terminal
Kernel has estimated the losses of sunflower oil following a Russian drone attack on the company’s sunflower oil transshipment terminal in Ukraine’s Odesa region on July 14.
According to the company, the strike triggered a major fire that damaged half of the terminal’s sunflower oil storage tanks and part of its infrastructure. Approximately 25,000 tons of sunflower oil belonging to Kernel and a U.S. company that stored its product at the facility were damaged.
The coordinated efforts of Kernel’s port operations team, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, and neighboring terminals enabled firefighters to contain and extinguish the blaze within 12 hours. The rapid response prevented the fire from spreading to other facilities and avoided any sunflower oil spill into the sea. No employees were injured.
The company is currently dealing with the aftermath of the attack and continues to assess the full extent of the damage.
